The eruption of Mount Merapi in October 2010 was a big eruption. Many victims were killed by the eruption of Merapi. At the time of the eruption, people around the slopes of Merapi were asked to evacuate. This is to avoid the glowing clouds and they get shelter in the form of refuge provided by the government. In addition, the donation of food, clothing, and the need for refugees.
after the eruption of Mount Merapi is causing many impacts, both positive impacts and negative impacts that trigger social change. As for the negative impacts that trigger changes such as making people who live around the Merapi must lose their jobs, their house and their  property damaged by glowing clouds hit. Not only do they suffer losses  the material but they feel sad and even feel depressed and many children missed the lessons because school was closed. This incident also caused some people to lose livestock.
The positive impact is the area of ​​Lava Tour which is used as a tourist object and has been inaugurated by the Culture Office of Sleman Regency. This causes social changes that occur the people in Lava Tour area. After the eruption many tourists who visit, they come from local and international. So in terms of bahasa.bahasa Indonesia always used by the people, especially in the place of tourist attractions. Previously, people use Javanese language as a language of daily communication. Many of  tourists who visit this tourist attraction also changed the social culture of the people. another than , there are changes in the pattern of settlements around the people are generally dispersed and irregular, the pattern of settlement on the slopes of Merapi today become more organized and close together because it becomes tourist areas. After the Merapi eruption disaster that requires them to gather in a residential area that has been created by the government ,so that impact on the pattern of their interaction.
Regarding  the cold lava. This cold lava is giving  misery to the people around the slopes, but after the eruption occurs it actually brings grace. Because the soil becomes fertile and suitable for farming. For example, Bangunkerto district, donokerto district  and wonokerto district are known as producers of salak fruit. Many types of salak are grown in this area. Type of salak consists of salak pondoh, salak super, salak jowo, salak madu, salak gading. Being a distinctive characteristic for these areas. With the fertile soil,after eruption becomes a grace for the farmers of salak. Various kinds of preparations made from salak. There are include dodol salak, chips salak, bakpia salak, coffee salak, jenang salak , salak syrup , and etc. With the innovation processed from salak,It is becomes an attraction for tourists who want to visit this area. Besides the soil becomes fertile, the mountain merapi brings a lot of sand material with good quality. Sand from the slopes of Mount Merapi is famous for materials to make the house because of its quality. Therefore, many sand miners are looking for sand in the mountain stream of Merapi.So after Mount Merapi erupted the life of people around Mount Merapi became prosperous.
