Summary:
Hester Prynne is a woman arrested
for being accused of being an adulterer in Boston. She has children but no
husband, everyone in town always asks her about the father of the child but
Hester is always silent and never tells the turth to anyone.
Without anyone else, Hester has a
husband, he is Roger Chillingworth, a man known as a doctor in Boston. Roger
loves Hester very much and he is obsessed by Hester. He tried to find out about
the father of Hester's son. Until accidentally, Roger found the father of
Hester's son, the man is Arthur Dimmesdale, a young minister. Roger does not
like the fact, then he did something to punish Arthur.
Arthur Dimmesdale always felt weak
and sick, so he asked for help from Roger to take care of him. Without ever
knowing, Roger never tried to cure him. On the contrary, Roger always makes
Arthur's body weak every day.
Hester's son named Pearl, she grew
into a strong girl. But people in the city are concerned about Pearl's
spiritual growth. Therefore, they tried to take Pearl from Hester and give her
to the families who able to educate her. But Hester does not let that happen,
Pearl is her life, she will not let Pearl be taken by someone else.
At last Hester kept Pearl at his
side. But without anyone knowing, Hester and Arthur remained in contact, they
sometimes met and mourned their fate, until finally Arthur decided to leave
Boston and live with Hester and Pearl. He wants happiness and builds a small
family.
But unfortunately the reality
tells in different way, in the middle of the city, he experienced tremendous
pain, then in the middle of his critical time. He tells the whole town that he
is the father of a child owned by Hester. After that he died.
After Arthur died, Hester and
Pearl left Boston, Roger also died a few months later and gave Pearl a lot of
money. A few years later, Boston has an interesting story about Hester but
everyone has a different story according to their own version.
Moral Values:
We must tell the truth.
People have to struggle to get their happiness.
Love and respect yourself, then others will do the same.
Everyone has the right to love and be loved.
