Tomokazu Harimoto was
born on June 27th,2003. He is an attacking player with right-handed shake-hand
grip player.
Despite his young
age,Harimoto’s game cannot be underestimated. In 16 years old,his rankings is at
#2 in Junior level and #13 in the professional level.Since his first year at
primary school,Tomokazu managed to qualify for the Japanese Championships and
dominated several age categories.Only Ai Fukuhara,in the girl’s events has
previously enjoyed similar success.Having parents with same background,it is
hardly surprising that Tomozaku began playing table tennis as a two years old.
In 2017,Japan’s table tennis wonderkid wrote many new records in the world’s record
book.
Tomokazu Harimoto closed out 2017 with some records. He became the
youngest ever in Men’s ITTF World Tour Champion in Czech. The table tennis
sensation was making headlines around the world for his ability to beat with
many competitors twice his age. So does anyone be really surprised if he will
continue to set records in 2018?
On the afternoon of Sunday, 27th August 2017, Tomokazu Harimoto won Men’s
Singles Champion at the Seamaster 2017 ITTF World Tour Czech Open in Olomouc.
He did the unthinkable at 14 years old.Harimoto took the title with the final
he encountered Germany’s Legend,Timo Boll.He took the match 11-9 in the sixth
game to write his way in to the history books. The table tennis wonder kid
capped off the year by taking home the Breakthrough Star Award at the ITTF Star
Awards night in Astana.
I am sure that his fans around the world would wonder about his training
and equipment. There are several items on which Tomokazu Harimoto pays special
attention with regards to his material: First, “good speed and spin
development”, secondly “good ball contact.” His blade is a special butterfly
wood with Arylate Carbon and inner-fiber technology.
“To
remain dangerous enough in longer rallies and especially during
counter-spinning, I needed a blade that had more speed and spin than the
previous ones.” –Tomokazu Harimoto
He chose TENERGY 80 as rubber, being best for the balance of speed and
rotation. Because for its pace development, he had played with a TENERGY 64
until now.On the backhand he plays with TENERGY 05 FX.
“As soon as I feel that I become stronger as by body strength grows and also
with constant training, I will certainly try even harder rubbers,” said
Tomokazu.
“Age
doesn’t matter, you must play and fight against everyone! It was my second
World Tour final, first time I lost my chance, this time I won; now at the
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games I want to win Men’s Singles and Men’s Team gold but I
know I must practise hard and fight to gain the glory.” - Tomokazu Harimoto
The career of Tomokazu Harimoto is only just beginning. The
Monster is only just waking up to roar. What records will he create in 2018?
