The Story of NU'EST Overcome Music Video

The Story of NU'EST Overcome Music Video

After a long hiatus, NU'EST made their comeback on 16 February 2016 with their 4th Mini Album 'Q IS.' The title track is "여왕의 기사" which was translated by Pledis, their label, as Overcome.

NU'EST "여왕의 기사" music video story-line was made based on Korean manhwa under the same title by Kim Kang Won. The title of the manhwa itself was translated by meaning into 'The Queen's Knight'.

The Manhwa's Story
"When Yuna Lee's mother moves to Germany to pursue a music degree, Yuna is left to stay with her father, a university professor, and her three older brothers, who are overprotective of her. During her summer vacation, she visits her mother in Germany, where she falls off a cliff and is rescued by Rieno, an 18-year-old knight living in the land of Phantasma. Rieno makes a deal with Yuna that, because he has saved her life, she must become his queen. Indebted to him for saving her life, Yuna is torn between her normal world back home and life as Phantasma's Queen." (Synopsis by Wikipedia)
In the manhwa, Phantasma is in eternal winter and people there aree sleeping throughout the winter in order to prevent them from dying. They will wake up when spring comes, but the spring will only come if the Queen of Phantasma's heart is filled with love. There will be more than one knight who will fill the Queen's heart along the story. The manhwa itself ends with a bittersweet story with rejections and deaths.

The Music Video's Story
Just like the story of the manhwa, the setting of 여왕의 기사 music video is in winter. NU’EST members: JR, Minhyun, Aron, Ren, and Aron are the knights who are looking for the Queen.

The music video starts with JR walking in a messy room in where the Queen got ‘kidnapped’.

The title of the song appears on the right with only '여 기' (yeogi) which means 'here'.

Then it appears completely as '여왕의 기사' which means 'The Queen's Knight'.

The next scene is Minhyun walking in a snow storm alone.

While Baekho is walking through a forest and Ren is taking a break beside a fire.

The Queen is looking at Ren, but Ren does not know abou it. A mirror is parting them, which probably means the Queen is trapped in another world.

Minhyun and Ren are holding similar pendants. The Queen gave a similar one to Aron while the other knights were watching.

Then it moves to romantic scenes between Minhyun and the Queen.

Then it suddenly comes back to Minhyun who falls down and somehow sees the Queen.

The next scene shows how the Queen was pulled by invisible energy and the knights could not save her.

JR looks outside the broken window of the room where the Queen got pulled by the invisible energy.

The next scene is Aron running with all his might until he reaches red stairs,

but Minhyun is the one walking on the stairs.

Then JR opens a door and at the same time, the door to a room in where the Queen is sleeping is opened.

However, in the end, Minhyun is the one who finds the Queen which is sleeping on a throne.

You can watch the music video here.

The story of the music video itself can be interpreted from different ways. Perhaps Minhyun finds The Queen because he is dead just like The Queen. Perhaps Minhyun is literally able to find The Queen. Perhaps Minhyun goes to another world where he finally can find The Queen. Perhaps it is only Minhyun's imagination. Perhaps no one can find The Queen. Pledis, NU'EST, and staffs do not give any explanation about the plot of the story. So, how you interpret the story of the music video is all up to you, readers!

Short Story Analysis : A Haunted House by Virginia Woolf

A Haunted Hous e by Virginia Woolf             Whatever hour you woke there was a door shutting. From room to room they went, hand in hand, lifting here, opening there, making sure—a ghostly couple.             “Here we left it,” she said. And he added, “Oh, but here too!” “It’s upstairs,” she murmured. “And in the garden,” he whispered “Quietly,” they said, “or we shall wake them.”                But it wasn’t that you woke us. Oh, no. “They’re looking for it; they’re drawing the curtain,” one might say, and so read on a page or two. “Now they’ve found it,” one would be certain, stopping the pencil on the margin. And then, tired of reading, one might rise and see for oneself, the house all empty, the doors standing open, only the wood pigeons bubbling with content and the hum of the threshing ma...
